Fungi Friends and Forest Food Foragers, let’s connect!

Hundreds of millions of years ago mushrooms started influencing our landscapes. An integral part of the cycles of nature, mushrooms still play vital roles in our environment. Come and learn about the fantastic world of fungi. Meet and learn about the importance of Nova Scotia’s beautiful mushrooms with this Enchanted Mushroom Forest at FireLoch Retreat.

FireLoch is home to some of the best mushroom habitats around. Explore their beautiful green spaces and learn about some of the top choice edible mushrooms in Atlantic Canada. We will gather together to learn about safe foraging practices and respectful harvesting. After we have collected some local mushrooms, we will prepare a sampling of wild foods that we will cook together on the outdoor cobb oven – a meal for everyone! Lots of time for Q&A so bring your questions and ideas to share.

Families are welcome (and encouraged!) to join in but our pace is slow and content is likely best for youth 10+.

This workshop will be offered by Jessika Gauvin who was raised by a forager and herbalist mother who focused on connection with the land, making remedies with plants and supplementing family meals with wild foods. Jessika is now a wild mushroom specialist with over 7000 hours of field work under her belt. She is President of the Mycological Society of NB (Myco NB), owner of Enchanted Mushroom Forest foraging company, a member of a team of mycologists assisting poison control with emergency poisoning cases planet wide and a trusted identifier for The North American Mycological Society.
